I have so often wished for the gift of being able to write as the great writers do. And, together with that gift, I have wished for another ; that of thinking as they do.
As you probably know, Jonathan Sacks is our Chief Rabbi. Read here what he says about how our Judaeo-Christian heritage has shaped us and so much of the rest of the world.
Good ole Jamie
There is hope as long as someone or even the last one thinks of reminding us and the World that we are but people.
There is so much in here; it will need more time to study and read it a few more times. Thanks for placing it.
Indeed we are but people, Ike, and we have severe limitations in our understandings and in our doings. But, as long as we allow ourselves to be guided by the Good, we may do good in the world.
(By the way, I discovered that both SA and the UK use the same coding for DVDs, so I can send that tv programme as soon as I know where to send it, for Amazon do SA, too. Isn’t that handy?)
Jamie
The rabbi’s speech needs much more worthy attention than I am able to provide.
However, his economic and financial points are extremely accurate; it is possible to mention that I daresay I have said the same many times.
His referral in the same paragraph towards the end to “scientific atheism” and his obvious disdain for the secular movement of today is refreshing. Am I the only one to notice that he doesn’t even mention politics or politicians?
Well, I am not worthy to comment anymore tan that; the good Rabbi has said what needs to be said. I don’t, however, think that man can destroy the creation. We may be able and carry within ourselves the power to do ourselves great harm but the Creation belongs to God and I see no possibility that Man will be able to destroy God or His creation.
Look out for my email about your DVD.
Hello Jamie,
I just wanted to wish you a belated Merry Christmas and a happy new year.
Best wishes,
Levent
Hello Levent, and thank you for your good wishes, which are always welcome. Forgive me, but I really have lost track of the Moslem year now – (and don’t say anything about my old age, please). But why shouldn’t we share our good wishes on the solar new year? Happy Hogmanay!
